This post is a warning for anybody thinking of doing business with Camping World, Rapid city, South Dakota. However, I now see this is not a local issue, but a corporate one.
This is not my typical post. But I’ve been annoyed, frustrated, have wasted far too much time and have decided this is my only option.
I purchased a camper in May of 2016. I was in a bind time wise. My elderly disabled dad and I were moving out of a rental home and into the house my brother and I had purchased. But the house wasn’t ready for my dad. So, we needed a camper to get us by. I made a list of what a camper would need and started looking. I finally found what we were looking for and started the paperwork.
During the signing of documents, the costs were adding up. My dad, who also has dementia, was calling me on my cellphone and the process was becoming emotionally strenuous. And the agent knew it.
I had told the agent that I didn’t want GAP insurance and explained why. I said I didn’t need the extended warranty. I questioned how the DOC fees could possibly be $400…
He pressed and pressed. On the extended warranty, I said the camper would be parked and not be able to be moved as my dad would be living in it.
He assured me that was not a problem. They could simply send somebody out. Not a problem.
And GAP insurance? I knew better.
He wouldn’t let up.
Calls kept coming.
I gave in. I needed out of there. I needed to get home to my dad. I needed to close on the camper. Time was short.
Since then, I’ve called several times to get something looked at and every single time I get trapped in the phone maze. “Oh that’s not my department.” ”You need to call the service department.” “We don’t send people out… that’s not covered in the warranty’.” And then we start again.
A few nights ago, the furnace stopped working. Yesterday morning I contacted Camping World. Told them the furnace stopped working. I was told the service manager would call me. It’s now Friday night. Weekend starting… and then Monday is Christmas Eve and then Christmas.
This is South Dakota. It’s winter.
But no call from Camping World, and to be honest, I didn’t expect it. It was their last chance. I took my broken furnace as an opportunity to give them one. Their last one. Then I started looking online to see if this was just a fluke. Is it just me that they are ignoring?
I found dozens of reviews that shared my same story. In short, this was all a pattern with camping World. They never intended to honor the warranty. The doc fees are ridiculously high and the GAP insurance is outrageous. Their MO is to wear you down. Just as they did with me.
I’ve had my hands full with m dad and didn’t want to think about all this until the furnace stopped working and I was reminded that I was on my own… and that I had been ripped off. Consciously. All that was missing was a gun.
So, I’m doing what I can to warn others. They owe me $3000 for the warranty (that they never intended to honor), $700 for GAP insurance (which I had said many times I didn’t want), and $400 for DOC fees which of course is a ridiculous fee. They should be no more than $50-$75, tops.
I’ve called and left messages since the beginning. I’ve been ignored. So, here we are.
I have a blog and I know how to rank on first page of Google… it just takes a little time. I have plenty of time. And this blog oddly gets a decent amount of traffic.
