Hey there! Welcome back to Focus on you. Have you thought about any projects that you have put on the back burner for a long time… or it’s on the front burner and you keep stirring the pot and wondering if you should add any ingredients?
I do like my analogies.
I want to share a story with you. I have a friend from childhood who is starting a business. He has an investor and is doing everything on his own at this stage.
Given my knowledge of building super simple websites with WordPress, and offering my coaching and teaching a course for regular people to follow along to build their own site.. he asked for help.
I mentioned to him that if he wanted something more than a super simple starter website, he would do well to hire somebody to build it for him.Not me.
However, if he wanted a simple one, I could save him many hours by just telling him what to do and where to go.
So, I told him where to get a domain, get hosting, install WordPress, pick a free theme and dive in.
And then I spent the next few hours fielding questions about whether that is the best place to host and which is the best theme, and he downloaded 5 themes and was going to try each one of them.
I explained that for what he wants to do, I would go with the host I suggested because their customer service is good and in country. I mentioned another host that I had tried and I hated and I told him why.
Another 30 minutes hearing about how that other host, the one I hate, as being less expensive or good reviews on some site that they likely offer an affiliate link to.
And he read bad reviews on the host I was suggesting. I stuck with my suggestion because I’ve personally used that host for 15 years and I know their customer service is better than being credited for.
He then saw they were having a sale on hosting, which I had mentioned earlier was likely and so he chose them.
This back and forth questioning my suggestions and eventually going through all the other options and coming back to accepting my suggestions, went on all day.
He asked about a builder plugin, I mentioned the one I had experience with. He asked about one in particular, and I said I had no experience with that one.
He chose the other. He promptly had questions about how it worked…
You’re killing me smalls…
I love creating. And one way for me to create is through a website. From buying the domain and starting to flesh out the site… I like it. And some of my sites are not fleshed out completely, and that’s ok. I’m ok with that.
But I also know that there are lots of people who want to create a website, but are stuck. And that’s who I created one of my websites for, simplestarterwebsite.com And I created a course that I offer every once in a while for a handful or couple handfuls of people to take over a week.
I’ve already gone through all the decision making that you are thinking about. I’ve already dealt with the overwhelm. I have streamlined the initial decisions so you don’t have to make them.
I’ve been building sites for 15 years. I know that nothing you do will kill your dream. Mistakes are ok. You choose the wrong domain. You choose an ugly theme. Bad colors. Silly fonts.
It doesn’t matter in the long wrong. It really doesn’t. The world keeps spinning and likely very few people even noticed. They are too focused on their own mistakes. Don’t give your activity or decisions more weight than they deserve.
Don’t overthink it. Whether project you are sitting on… stop sitting. Start doing. Even if you re not sure what it is you want to do… I am a big fan of just starting and figuring it out as you go.
Ok. Love you guys. I hope what I say here helps you to get something going. Happiness is the goal. Do something that you think you’ll enjoy. That will bring you joy.
And don’t be afraid to go take some time to yourself and give it some thought. But not so much time that start dissecting it and analyzing it to death. Get an idea… move on it. Start to figure out what you want to do and be through that activity. Let that idea change into something else.
Have a great week. It is up to you. Your happiness is your choice.
We are fast approaching the end of a spectacular year. Let’s focus on what we are going to do with the next one.
Bye for now.
